It is important for us to show optimal respect to the Maine Coons special behavior, and there needs to be in the flock.
Therefore we have made a special place for mothers and small kittens.
This we call our kitten-stable, it is placed in a corner, in the center of the house with half-walls and free access to visitors at both 2 and four legs.

The kittens get used to see many other cats and it is important for their socialization that they see other cats than just mother and siblings.
The kittens are in their "stable" until they are fully conversant with both food and cat toilet until they are around 6-7 weeks old.
Then we open the barn door and they can run free in the whole house.
